Understanding Poland starts with the right information

Moving to a new country for work brings real challenges. Navigating an unfamiliar legal system, understanding what your employer can and cannot ask of you, knowing where to turn when problems arise — these things matter.

Stralis PL was built around a simple idea: foreigners working in Poland deserve access to clear, accurate, and practical information. Not legal advice, but genuine educational content that helps people understand their situation and make informed decisions.

Course Areas and Topics

Our educational content is organized into focused areas covering the most important aspects of working and living in Poland as a foreign national.

Understanding what type of contract you are signing is one of the most important steps when starting work in Poland. Polish law recognizes several contract types — including umowa o pracę (employment contract), umowa zlecenie (mandate contract), and umowa o dzieło (contract for specific work) — each with different rights and obligations. This module explains what each type means in practice, what must be included in a valid contract, and what questions to ask before signing.
Polish labour law provides a range of protections for all workers, regardless of nationality. This area covers minimum wage regulations, working hours, overtime rules, rest periods, and the right to annual paid leave. It also addresses what constitutes unlawful treatment at work and how the State Labour Inspectorate (Państwowa Inspekcja Pracy) can help when rights are violated. Knowing these protections is the first step toward being able to use them.
The Polish social insurance system (ZUS) covers pension contributions, health insurance, and benefits such as sick pay. This module explains how contributions work, what you are entitled to when employed under different contract types, how to register with the National Health Fund (NFZ), and how to access medical care. Understanding ZUS is essential for anyone building their working life in Poland.
Working legally in Poland requires the right documentation. This section covers the main types of temporary residence permits, work permits, and the combined zezwolenie na pobyt i pracę. It explains the general application process, documents commonly required, and the connection between your employment situation and your right to stay. This content is informational and does not replace official guidance from the Voivodeship Office (Urząd Wojewódzki).
Beyond the workplace, settling into life in Poland involves understanding how to register your address (meldunek), open a bank account, navigate the public transport system, and access local services. This module covers practical aspects of daily life that are particularly relevant for newly arrived foreigners, including information about renting accommodation, registering children in schools, and understanding basic administrative procedures.
Language can be one of the biggest barriers when working in a new country. This section provides practical workplace vocabulary, common phrases used in employment contexts, and guidance on understanding official documents and correspondence. The focus is on functional language that helps in real work situations — not academic grammar, but the words and phrases that actually matter on the job.
